She married Kenneth Piper on June 12, 1954, in Mayville after meeting at a Firemen’s Dance. Norma graduated from the University of Wisconsin in 1952, and taught mathematics for 16 years in Tomah, Sparta, Bangor, and Onalaska.
She was a long time member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, served on the church council, and was an officer on WELCA board. Norma was a member of Miriam circle and provided inspiration to the Dorcas quilting circle, producing hundreds of quilts. She continued to quilt until her death.
Despite never eating lutefisk, she was chairman of the lutefisk dinner for 16 years. Norma was a life member of the West Salem Historical Society. She loved swimming, and continued to swim into her 90s. Norma lived close to her grandchildren throughout their childhood and was always in the audience for their latest concert, award ceremony, or celebration. Most recently, Norma delighted in making memories with her two great-grandsons who lovingly called her GG.
Survivors include two sons, John (Deborah) Piper and James (Josephine) Piper; three grandchildren, Samuel (Jennifer), Leah, and Hannah Piper; and two great-grandsons, Esbern and Soren Piper; and many nieces and nephews.
